SEMCO Launches with Major Industry Accreditations

SEMCO is built on systems.

Our objective is simple to state, and hard to do. To develop streamlined, smooth processes, enabled by technology and AI, running across the whole business. Not construction with software bolted on — a manufacturer engineered as one integrated system to manage strategy, safety, operations, quality, risk, environmental performance and finance together. And we’ve built that system on the strongest possible framework, certified to internationally recognised standards.

When SEMCO was formed, we didn’t inherit a clean slate. We took on manufacturing operations with systems that worked in parts and systems that had never been properly optimised. The board made an early decision not to paper over that — but to rebuild it. Every core workflow has been mapped, questioned and reconstructed, so that the way we design, manufacture and deliver runs as a single connected process rather than a series of disconnected handoffs.

That meant more than tidying up procedures. It meant structuring our data properly from the outset so the business runs on information it can actually trust.

Get that right, and the operating system doesn’t just run today’s work well. It’s ready for what comes next: the automation and intelligence that will define how the best manufacturers operate over the coming years. We’ve built the foundations for that deliberately – More on that soon.

"This is a floor, not a ceiling. We're already pursuing several further accreditations, each of which unlocks new sectors and new work as it's secured."

CEO

The operating system is only valuable if it’s independently tested. That’s where accreditation matters.

BOPAS — the Buildoffsite Property Assurance Scheme — gives lenders, valuers and housing association asset teams independent confidence in the durability, design life and warrantability of our buildings. For a sector still working to shake off the reputation left by a handful of failures, that assurance matters. We wanted it in place before we asked anyone to trust us with a scheme.

ISO 9001 proves our quality management holds up to scrutiny — not just on paper, but on the factory floor, in the consistency of every module we produce. Quality can’t rest on whoever happens to be on the line that day. It has to be systemised, repeatable and independently checked. ISO 9001 is how we prove it is.

ISO 14001 holds our environmental management to the same standard. Reduced waste, responsible sourcing and lower-impact production aren’t brochure claims — they’re managed, measured and audited. For clients with net zero commitments and social value obligations, that difference is the whole point.

Cyber Essentials reflects something not every manufacturer takes seriously: in a business built on data, digital design and connected systems, information security is part of build quality. For public sector and defence-adjacent work, it’s non-negotiable — so we treated it that way from the start.

Together, these accreditations are the backbone of the company. The operating system runs on top of them.

This is a floor, not a ceiling. We’re already pursuing several further accreditations, each of which unlocks new sectors and new work as it’s secured. But the principle won’t change. That’s the business our board set out to build: properly systemised, accredited from the ground up, and structured to meet the wave of demand heading for our industry with the foundations to scale into it.
